Sharing – Teaching – Learning
Song de Raiz was set up in 2015 with the aim to connect school children around the world through folk music. On this website you can find out more about the project, listen to recordings, and find teaching resources to help you to run workshops of your own.
Song de Raiz | Class of 2016 – 2017
In school year 2016 – 2017 we worked with four schools in different countries, sharing a love of song and an interest in each others’ culture and way of life. As well as learning some traditional songs from each country, each class also exchanged letters, pictures and photos. At the end of the project, we made a CD, visited a local care home to perform for the residents, and held a concert at Folk Weekend Oxford, bringing all the different musical traditions together. We’d like to say a great big thank you to the participating schools: Windale Primary school in Oxford, Casa Educativa in Brazil, 11th and 21st Evosmos schools in Thessaloniki, Greece, and NECAT education centre in Leon, Nicaragua. This was the second edition of Song de Raiz – on this website you’ll also find materials and media from our first year (2015-16), working with St Barnabas and Church Cowley Primary Schools in Oxford, and Casa Educativa and NECAT.
